This page is specifically here to help you with the installation process of your new Europa Swiss Steel Conical Burr Grinder set. READ EACH STEP ENTIRELY BEFORE EXECUTING AS THERE ARE SMALL PIECES YOU DO NOT WANT TO LOSE.
- Once you have your machine opened, use a pen or felt tip marker like a sharpie and draw 1 single line from the rubber gasket all the way to the external black gear in the direction of the external grind adjustment knob (the one that you use to adjust the fineness of the grind when the machine is closed). The purpose of this is to have a reference point of where everything needs to line up when you reassemble. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP AND MAKE SURE NOT TO SKIP IT.
- Gently pry up on the black external gear ring and lift it vertically to remove it. Use caution to not exert too much force or you may break the tabs.
- Locate the plastic tabs that hold the white reference ring in place with the top section of the grinder. There is a spring loaded ball-bearing assembly that prevents the wheel from turning too rapidly. Make sure you keep track of this small part once you remove this white ring. Lift the entire assembly out.
- Use a TORX head to remove the bottom grinder assembly. Do this slowly and carefully as there are seated ball bearings on top of springs. There are 3 springs and 3 balls. Make sure you do not lose or drop these parts into the machine as they can be very difficult to retrieve.
- Now with the top and bottom grinder assembly completely removed from the machine, you can rotate out the grinder holder, and gently pry on these three tabs to remove the top grinder from the assembly. Once the tabs are pushed back, you can use a flathead screw driver to push through the tabs releasing the sheath holding the top grinder piece in place.
- Gently pop the 2 tabs on the assembly to completely remove the top grinder piece.
- Insert new top grinder, and make sure both tabs click into place
- Replace the sheath
- Place the assembly back into the white threaded wheel, and make sure it is seated in a fashion that allows for alignment with the sharpie line you previously drew. If not, lift out the assembly and turn 120* and set it again. The top grinder assembly should have a little play past the mark you drew in both directions while remaining attached to the white wheel assembly
- Place the new bottom grinder onto the ball bearings. Please note: just rest the piece on the balls / springs no need to push down or rotate. If the springs or balls fall, the easiest way to reset them is to stack the grind thrower wheel ontop of the springs / balls, then set the bottom grinder ontop
- Seat the bottom grinder on the ball bearings, ensuring they are vertical and have not fallen. Now you can use your torx driver to firmly tighten down the bottom grinder. No need to overtighten, just make sure its firmly snug
- Rest the top grinder assembly back onto the bottom and re-attached and re-clip everything.
Potential issues
“Add Bean indicator Error”
This can be fixed by adjusting the grind of your beans to more coarse. The issue is the grind is too fine, and the machine is not moving the grinds into the chamber.
Grinds are too fine or too coarse even on the lowest / highest setting
Try and rotate the black wheel a few clicks in the direction to open the gap in the grinder further. This will reduce the grind setting further. The external grind knob allows for only so much articulation. By turning the black wheel, and then setting the external extension gear in a new position, the grinds will now be justified either larger or smaller to your liking. Please note extremely fine powdered grinds will make one hell of a cup, but could reduce the life of your grinder as it is only utilizing the outer most edge (normally grinders last ~3k uses, it could reduce this to 2000 or less)
